As I said in Post #24, I've added a "Future" Phase to our template.
That allows you to map every Phase in the Link to Existing and Future to whatever the last one is in your project.
The downside is that Revit likes to default things like Schedules to the last Phase in a project so you have to remember to change those to New Construction. That's tripped me up more than once.

Struggling with mapping Phases through Links again today.
Do ALL of the Phases have to match exactly? Or only the ones I'm using?
I've got a project with a View's Phase Filter set to Show Previous + Demo and the exact same Filter in the Link
But the Demo is no coming through as dashed, as my Phase Graphics Overrides says.
The Phase Overrides in the link are set to different Line Types and colors, and there are not as many Phase Filters in the Link as there are in the parent.
The ones that are there match.
But the Link's Demo comes out solid instead of Dashed.
    I'm stumped

No they dont ALL have to match but they do if you want them to work properly as a complete timelining function.

Is there a reason you can't set up your link to match phasing exactly?

One of our current projects has two main arch. models with roughly 7 or 8 consultants (2 links each) and we set up all models with exact same phases /phase filters. Works a treat, after any spelling mistakes were corrected

I recently had a case when in a linked model, the New phase was renamed Existing and Existing to New, without changing the order.

Note that if using BIM360, ALL models need to have the same number of phases and named exactly the same. Othrwise the webviewer within the design collaboration model shows the project model phases incorrectly.
We're now advising all our clients to make this the project norm within their BEP's:
