    Shredders...

nah, not the paper eating kind, the guitar player kind. I've always been a wanna be guitar player, without the time or talent to get there. But I have always been a lover of good rock (or country or whatever) guitar playing. I've been having a back and forth with my son, who is an accomplished guitar player (and electric guitar builder) about whom is the greatest rock/blues guitar player ever. My vote is Stevie Ray Vaughn. His vote is Jimi Hendrix. Two wildly different styles but both pretty good axe hacks. I also like Eric Clapton, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Mike Bloomfield, and am presently blasting Bloomfield, Kooper, & Stills Super Session on my new Logi G933 headphones. Rock guitar is alive in my world. Who do you think is the greatest ever? Workin' to good guitar sounds is money in the bank!

    Dick Dale

Although where he falls in the spectrum of rock is potentially up for debate.

I'm a big fan of Hendrix myself. He wasn't just good; he pushed the boundaries on what a guitar should sound like. More recent favorites of mine are Gary Clark, Jr. and John Mayer (go ahead and laugh, but dude can play. Check out the live John Mayer Trio album if you're interested). Also, not exactly rock or blues and more folk/bluegrass, but check out the live recording of Chris Thile and Michael Daves playing "My Little Girl in Tennessee". That's some serious talent.

I love Junior Brown! Been to see him 4 or 5 times. Never disappoints. He does not make it up to the North East though. Have not seen him since I moved away from Minnesota.

For Rock/Blues guitar, I really do like the vote for Eric Clapton.

Seems to me that trying to reduce such things to the GOAT is a bit of a disservice to all of the talented musicians that have contributed. I think it would be more fun to try to keep up with emerging talent and those we might have overlooked. I'll toss in Michael Lee Firkins and Richie Kotzen as guys to check out.

Lot's of great talent mentioned already...and each of them had their favorites/influences.
