Nested Family Swapping Moves Family Location

I'm stumped and not sure where the snafu is... I'm trying to make a few tweaks to my windows and trim and am having a problem swapping trim out with a family type parameter. Both families are face based, have the same height & width parameters relative to the window, and have the same origin point. When I change the type from my exterior siding trim to interior casing it moves vertically by about 6 inches. Changing where they are constrained in the window family only changes which direction the offset occurs Anyone know where I'm going wrong?

It sounds like an family origin issue, given that it moves vertically and is a window I would look to a relationship with the sill height

Did you figure this out yet?
If so, what was the answer?
    If not...
Why are the nested families face based?
    Do they need to be?
Were they built from the exact same base family file/template, using the exact same (not recreated or duplicated) reference planes/lines?

My door Architraves/trims are just unhosted generic models which work fine when swapping. Have you tried changing from face-based to see if that's the problem?

My guess is it's one of thr "under the hood" origin problems. There is trouble with swapping families if the origin has been moved, sometimes.

Face based isn't the problem. ALL of my window interior and exterior trims are face based. You really want them to be, as they need to cut their own holes out of the walls, to be modeled correctly.

Haven't resolved it yet . Families are face based because as Aaron mentioned, they need to cut holes in the wall.

I didn't think about the origin being moved causing it. I did redefine the origin plane to be the same, can't recall offhand if while messing with it if I rebuild them and it still did it or if it was just the modified families that have an issue. I'll try to look into that some more today.
