    Chord Length Constraints

    I'm trying to figure out how to input trig into my Family Type Dimension Parameters. As of now, I have a simple A^2+B^2=C^2 equation which is getting me part of the way there. What I want is for the highlighted line to be parallel with the bottom line, no matter what angle the left side of the component becomes. Is anyone able to give me a hand with this? See screenshots for examples.

    The 6" dimension needs to be the same on both sides.

    It would be useful to have more information about what you are trying to do. It seems that you are using adaptive points. What is the final result? Some kind of trapezoid with adaptive points and a certain angle at the ends?

    Ill update in the morning, but for now I will tell you that the adaptive component is a cladding ACM panel. There is more to the component than I have shown and Ill provide a screenshot of what it looks like on a model tomorrow.

    This is a fairly common occurrence with our panels and if I can get this formula figured out, it will help our team tremendously. Were still very new to Revit.

    Chord length is easy to do, just takes different formulas based on h (R - dist to chord perp to arc), and a few variables. A bunch of my window families have that in them. Doesn't matter adaptive or not, the math is the same. I'll look at one in the morning.

    Here's what the component looks like on the model, the highlighted part. The part directly to the right of it is the same part but mirrored - these parts will be epoxied together at the corner.

    The issue I'm running into is the bottom termination, as it is crooked because my equation is wrong.

    And that was an adaptive family? Seems that it could have been easier to do and to use as a generic family.

    Theyre generic families but they need to be adaptive because of what we will be doing with Revit. We will be manufacturing these panels when the time comes.

    I still don't see the need to use an adaptive family for this molding. It could be simplified using generic families. A "family 1" that is the profile, and a "family 2" that is the parametric sweep. "Family 1" can be done as a single closed shape (B) or a "hollow" shape with thickness (A). "Family 2" needs a path (P) that can have parameters for leg 1 and leg 2. See illustrations.
