Face-based families ALWAYS default to Place on Vertical Surface.
We use that feature almost exclusively for Sinks in Countertops.
    Countertops are very rarely vertical.

Preferably remember WHAT I JUST DID 5 SECONDS AGO, but at least let me decide what the default is.

I'd like a face based family option for default face selection. It would also be nice to remember what my last choice was.

I have several of those things that "drive me crazy"; such as this set of annoyances related to the adaptive template, to begin with:

    1) The names of the elevation views in the adaptive template are not coordinated with the view cube. "Left" and "Right" elevations are "Left" and "Right" in the view cube, but "Back" and "Front" elevations are "Front" and Back" in the view cube.

    2) The gray background of the adaptive template. (generic model, and the two pattern-based templates). This one is not critical. More a personal thing. My sight is limited, so the gray background makes things hard to see for me.

    3) The ridiculously narrow size of the "Placement Plane" and "Host" drop down menus in the adaptive template, that cannot even show the name of a reference plane named with one character, not even if the character is "i". It does not fit!, so I always have to use the drop down menu to read the name of the host reference plane; something I could simply read if the drop down control were designed properly.

    4) The limitation of choices for categories in the adaptive templates.

    5) The error message that says that the point I just placed is on top of another point. I know it is! duh but there is no option to say "don't show me this again".

    6) Not being able to load an adaptive family into a generic family.

(I know I could create a personal template to take care of points 1 and 2 above, but when I am teaching, those things are always like that in other people's computers).

Agree with face based. A simple meter box on external wall ended up sticking out from wall.

All of which I assigned the keyboard shortcut "FF" ... yes it took awhile to assign, but now I don't think about it. Except Finish Group, which is FG

(Cancel Edit mode is "XX" as well).

Manage images menu closing after hitting place instance and not being able to select multiple images at once
Having to duplicate views one by one.
Demolishing windows and placing new ones of the same size not playing nice with infill walls.
    etc., etc.

Shape Editing a Floor (which like many people I guess, I use for bits of 'land') - you can see the control handles on visually obscured points once you click and highlight the floor, then click 'Modify Sub Elements', but you cannot select such a visually hidden control point to edit the value unless you turn on transparency in Graphic Display Options

(and the fading of other objects is far too great - not just in this command)

willsud, I've done the math and determined your thing is 46.3% too large to be considered a little thing.

Check out this non-important button issue. Comes in at a whopping 87.4% under the little thing threshold.

I always wonder is Autodesk simply not willing to expand this button to let us finally know what it says in full, or is it literally just "Tags" followed by an ellipsis.
