Is this 2020 RFO benchmark more demanding than the 2019 benchmark?

The reason I ask is because some of these 9900k CPUs are getting awfully low model creation scores IMO.

When I benched mine on last year's benchmark @ 5.0ghz all core, I was getting 83 seconds. My best run was 78.65 on a 9600k that was @ 5.2Ghz.

Even my 8700k @ 4.8 Ghz got 86 seconds for model creation.

I haven't looked into it but I would agree that something is different. Testing a 5.3ghz 9900KS build didnt break past the 80 second barrier and that was with 3600mhz RAM on top of that. Score was almost identical to the 5.2ghz setting. So it makes me think that some sort of default Revit setting has changed or something as 5.2ghz used to easily get into the 70 second range. Back on RFO 2018 a 5.2ghz 7600k I tested got 74 seconds with either 3600mhz or 3800mhz RAM but since then a lot of security updates have released that has slowed things down a hair.

All of the extra security updates seems to make sense in slowing it down a bit. It's unfortunate that Autodesk isn't focusing on optimizing the code and reworking the program to make use of more threads and cores for the very common functions in Revit.

Once I get back to my office after this coronavirus social distancing ends, I will re-run the RFO 2020 benchmark and compare it to last year's results.

Happened to get my hands on a (remote) system with the latest AMD EPYC (Rome) 7F72 CPU (24 cores, 3.2 GHz base, 3.7 GHz boost), to check if it would be a good option for our cloud desktop platform.
Not too impressed with the results, given that in synthetic benchmarks, it performs better than most Intel Xeon's.

The test ran on a bare-metal system, that did not have a GPU. It also seems like it can't properly pull the CPU's specifications.

    The results:

    Code:
    RVT 2020 - Full_Standard set - 2020.05.02 @ 06.51.45 on WIN-FPPH3SQRKP7.txt RFO Benchmark v3.2 (build 19.08.2019)

For comparison, I also ran the benchmark on our current CPU's, the Intel Xeon Gold 6128 (6 cores, 3.4 GHz base, 3.7 Ghz boost).
I heavily invested time in optimising the hypervisor, so that the cloud desktops run as optimal as possible for applications like Revit.
I'm quite impressed with the results, given that unoptimised, on the Revit 2019 benchmark, the result was much higher (136 seconds):

    Code:
    RVT 2020 - Full_Standard set - 2020.05.02 @ 07.42.00 on WIN-GNBVCVD5A0L.txt RFO Benchmark v3.2 (build 19.08.2019)

This is the result of a test system I built last year, but that we've not put into production, because of various technical reasons.
This system is running an Intel Xeon E-2186G (6 cores, 3.8 GHz base, 4.7 GHz boost). For some reason, the boost never exceeds 4.6 GHz, even if none of the other cores are used.
The system is also running the same optimisations to the hypervisor, as in the previous post.

As Jesse_Stillwel and remiscs are saying, there is definitely a difference between Revit 2019 and Revit 2020. This system was running 93s on the 2019 RFO benchmark test.

    Results:

    Code:
    RVT 2020 - Full_Standard set - 2020.05.02 @ 14.40.31 on RTX4000TEST.txt RFO Benchmark v3.2 (build 19.08.2019)

Actually, with RemoteFX, Microsoft has come a long way compared to what RDP was capable of before.
But I do agree that there are better options out there, if you are running graphics intensive applications and need the lowest image/mouse latency possible.

RemoteFX still sucks. It's nowhere near comparable.

Also, just an fyi: you'll get decently different results running that benchmark at normal resolution (1920*1080). Running it at 800x is going to make the results artificially fast.

But glad to see you're getting closer with your systems. I've seen a Xeon Gold system on VMware run in the low 90's (in revit 2019). Sounds like you guys are getting close.

Yes, I agree it's definitely still not up to par with the other, more specialised remoting solutions out there, but when comparing it to RDP from the old days, it's definitely improved a lot.

I think the RFO benchmark was not correctly picking up the resolution through the remoting, they were both done at 1600x1200 I believe.

Yes, there are better CPU's out there, but I'm not sure if any Xeon system cal still reach sub-100s in Revit 2020 though. With the Cascade Lake's, I feel like around 100 should be possible.
With virtualisation, there are a lot of things to consider, that make it a lot harder to achieve near bare-metal performance.

Did the benchmark on my Ryzen machine. Its really slow for some reason, might be the same problem im encountering with my i7 9700k which also goes close to 200 seconds. I just dont really know what the problem is. For so far my i5 6500 gets a better score then both my Ryzen 5 2600 and i7 9700k in the RFO benchmarks. (the i5 6500 and i7 9700k were done in RVT2019)

I did think the benchmark on the ryzen took way to long, might have run a good 3 hours for the full-standard benchmark. It might have frozen a few times. Not really sure if this has to do with my computers or a bug with windows and the code.

    Code:
    RVT 2020 - Full_Standard set - 2020.05.22 @ 18.21.27 on DESKTOP-27RQFN7.txt
        RFO Benchmark v3.2 (build 19.08.2019)
        RevitForum.org
