    Symbol offsets in hosted families

I am trying to create new families for the company I work for.

I want the ability for the symbols to be offset from and/or along the wall/ceiling to make a 2D plan easier to read. I have figured out how to do this for the ceiling (and non-hosted) families, but I cannot figure out how to get the offset parameter to work when the object is hosted to a wall (face based).
My ceiling/non hosted allow me to move the symbols in both left/right and up directions as picture below,

whereas when objects are hosted to the wall the symbol can only be offset left or right as shown below

    Am I missing something fundamental/important?

I'm keen to go with face based families as we have had issues with architects moving walls (sometimes 50-100mm) and our non-hosted objects no longer sit on the walls. BUT if there is a better way of controlling how our families move if/when the architects move walls, I'm more than happy to listen.

Thanks in advance for any help/guidance.

Well, you can create parameters that defines the distances from whatever you want. Then you can change them in the project as you like.

Thanks but I cant seem to find a way to create the parameter to offset it from the wall. To get the parameter I think it needs to be in the elevation view, but in the elevation view there are no symbols to align and lock in place. Am I missing something very basic?

What you can do is, first draw a ref. Plane in elevation view then define your distance parameters. After that select that ref plane as your host for your symbol. Then it should move with the ref plane.

Tip: Do the offset WITHIN the Annotation Family itself. Its way less stressful.

Thanks for your help but I cant figure out how to see the symbol in the elevation view to enable me to lock it to the ref plane.

The plan view has the symbol and it is locked to the ref planes

I can see in the revit model that the ref plan is moving, but as the symbol has not been locked in that plane, the symbol isnt moving.

I have (hopefully) attached the family file to the post so you can see what I have done so far.

Its hometime for me now, so I'll pick up any further input in the morning, and thanks in advance for any help I am given.

You can name the ref plane you draw and then can select it in the list. By that you don't need to see the symbol from elevation view.

I feel very dumb. I cannot find a way to lock the symbol to that reference plane. The reference plane has already been named.

@Twiceroadsfool Thank you for your input, I will take a look at that over the next day or so... something more important has come up (again!)
