I have a life safety workset that is default not visible for the egress path generic model (pre-2020) because I only want it on in the life safety/egress plans (Area Plans). If there is a better way to manage this, I am open to ideas/changes in workflow.

View Templates could resolve that too. In my case I tried VT management first. It turned out they were using a lot of working views to get around view template's control. It wasn't my first choice but in this instance it worked.

    There are better ways.

    Filters.
    Level of Detail.
Line Based Detail Component instead of Line Based Generic Model

I've explained it using an example from our good friend AutoCAD.

You're deep in a project with an xref in lots of files. You need to add a layer in the base file that you only want visible in one file and not in the other 99. If you turn it off/freeze it in the base file then simply opening, saving, and closing the 99 files will lock that layer state thanks to visretain and you only need to turn it on in the one file.

Not exactly the same in Revit but, again, if you're using worksets for visibility and you add a workset late in the game, you can either update all of your VTs and/or views to hide it or set it to not be visible by default you only need to update those VTs and/or views you want to see it in.

But yeah... don't use Worksets for visibility if you can help it... for lots of reasons.

Yeah ... I basically did this on a recent project for exactly the reason you described. And as always, the shortcut came back to bite me, particularly when detaching & disabling worksets: https://revitforum.org/showthread.ph...pected-results. (Short version: walls disappeared in many sheet views ... not pretty if trying to print from them. The good news was the purpose of detach & disable was to transmit to other users that are not likely to be re-printing our sheets, but rather linking into their own models for developing their own scope. New views were fine and I've not heard anything from the other end that they've had weird visibility issues.) I will not bother with workset visibility in the future.

For rendering entourage, I create a later "Render" phase, and whatever needed views in that phase. It goes before my "Store stuff" phase....

Do you use DOs for all of these (legends, codes, units, etc.)?

I thought I heard something about Design Options and Linked Files for MEP being an issue... or am I remembering something else?
