    How can a parameter disappear?

I'm working on a Plumbing Fixture that has a nested family.
It has a Shared Parameter (Family Type) the calls out the faucet handle.
When I look at one of my Family Types, I see the Family Type parameter
But when I try switching to a different Type, that parameter doesn't even show up in the dialog, and I get an error

How can a parameter disappear from Type to Type?

If you share the family, i can try if i get the same thing.
Seems impossible that a family parameter does not show up on different types? maybe a problem with a type catalog?
Have you tried making it a type parameter, and see what happens next? Make it shared, see if that makes a difference?

It is a Shared Parameter. No Type Catalog.
The thing is, I've got a bunch of parameters in each Type, and I'd rather not reset all of them.

I was kind of shocked when I saw the parameter just disappear from the dialog.
    I agree. It seems impossible
I tried saving and reloading with an Audit, and the same thing happens.

If someone deleted a Faucet Family that is the default option for a Family Type, with that Shared Parameter: Yes, the entire parameter gets deleted. Its terrible behavior, and its been that way for years.

EDIT: By the way, in case i wasnt clear: This is a known issue, and its easily reproducible.

    1. Take any Family that uses a Shared Family Type Parameter, that has a default value.
    2. Find the family in the project browser, that is the Family and Type thats in the default value.
    3. Delete that family from the PB.
    4. After youve clicked *DELETE* in the warning, go back to the original Family (the parent family with the parameter).
    5. For JUST the types that had that default value set... That parameter is now gone.

And yes... the instances in your project are hella broken, now.

Does a reload not fix it?

I havent had good luck, personally, as (in my experience, anyway) you need to Reload AND Override Parameters, to fix it. That might be wrong though. Its not an issue i face often, as i know how to avoid it. But if you have to reload and Override, for me that effectively destroys everything anyway.

Haven't tried this yet (I ended up manually recreating my Types), but I wonder if you could Export a Type Catalog, delete the bad Types, and the Import the Catalog to recreate everything?
Might require manually editing the Type Catalog if the bad Types don't export properly.

I dont believe thats going to help with instance parameters resetting, at all.
