    Revit 2021 shadow problem

There seems to be a problem with shadows in the 2021 version.
In my projekt i have fasades with small recesses (3cm) in the old version you could emphazise these with the shadows. in version 2021 the shadowedges are so soft that there is no effect to be seen. Is there a way to fix this problem?

Can you post 2 comparison images from 2021 and a previous version?

The settings are the same for both versions. I also cannot explain the shadows in the windows. The room behind is 6.0m deep, so here should be no frameshadows.

Shadows in a realistic view are different in 2021. Realistic views create "real time" shading and shadows, so light and shadows are being "rendered" and calculated in the view live. In 2020 and previous, the cast shadows are much more simplified.

That said, I ran a test to see how a 3mm reveal casts shadows in 2020 and 2021. They are different, but still close to each other. Since in 2021 it is a real time render, the surrounding conditions can affect this, where in 2020 the shadows are not really rendered so they are applied universally.

it looks like one view is an elevation and the other is a 3D view.

edit: unless you are using realistic mode like Jeff mentioned.

Blimey Jeff, I've been waiting years for this - I'd no idea this was now possible.

    Many thanks

Yes it is a 2021 enhancement. I just wrote a special Have You Tried? topic in the help about it.

Many thanks, this is a really useful feature. I've just switched this drawing below from Consistent Colors to Realistic Views with no other changes and you can see potential for some Views - maybe not every one as it depends on lighting but certainly a big improvement over lining up 3D Views. Interesting to see it in Sections too as it happens.
