Wondering if others have encountered this issue:
Have a Shell/Core model with a UNIT model linked in. Tagging of unit elements is done in the UNIT model, and views in S/C are set BY LINKED VIEW to specific views in the UNIT model.
Users are finding that the RVT Links settings of the VT (unchecked, I checked ;-)) are resetting to BY HOST VIEW (but thankfully retaining the selected linked view).
I can't verify if it's user error or a glitch. someone checking/unchecking the VT could be the culprit, but if others have experienced / resolved it, I'd love to know!!
Thanks
Yep. I did a presentation at AU about it back in 2010.
It can happen if the users have different "timestamps" on their locally linked models. For instance:
You: Open the Core model at 8am.
Me: Opens the Unit Model at 8am.
Me: I make a new view in the unit model and sync (9am).
Me: I open the Core model at 9:30am.
Me: I set a view in Core to BLV: New View i made earlier.
Me: I sync with Central. That view is now set to BLV.
You: You SWC a few minutes later. That view (that you are nowhere near) is back to By Host View. Why?
YOUR model has a timestamp on Units from 8 this morning. The new view doesnt exist, so nothing in Core CAN be set to BLV of that view. And since you Synced last, BLV setting is gone.
Linked Units suck hard, for so many reasons. Groups all the way.
Thanks for the reply, Aaron. (I also realize I may have posted this Q twice, because I timed out between one post and didn't see it, so thought i'd lost it - feel free to blitz the repeat post)
This makes sense for this project, as the team had JUST created those corresponding views, and its crunch time, so every one and their cousin is digging into the S&C model. ::sigh::
Okay, so once the views are created, then this behavior should be stabilized??? that at least gives me hope, and the team can stop pointing fingers at each other... (at least for THIS issue).
I tell folks who insist on Links and By Linked View, to do the following:
1. Make everyone CLOSE the file immediately when getting up from their desk (lunch).
2. SWC in the Linked Files IMMEDIATELY after creating new views.
3. If you make the views on a Monday, dont set them to BLV until Tuesday.
Its the only real way to be sure.
