Im in the process of designing a pavilion for my backyard and was wondering if I need the posts in the middle of the truss thats in the front and back. So it would just be 3 posts on either side of the structure. I attached a picture to this message. Thanks
Not really a question for on a forum about software, but sure I can give it a go.
It all depends on the size of the beam and the other posts![]()
I would say it depends on what is bracing the structure from lateral movement.
You dont need it (probably) for the load coming down on the columns but for lateral stability they are probably needed, and usually I would expect to see some cross braces too or a slight gust of wind and that whole thing is coming down like a house of cards.
You probably also need them to be able to span your sheeting purlins because they would not make the entire span continually and remain very rigid.
So yes, at a guess, structurally you probably need them (and add some X-bracing on each face somewhere)
