Hello Revit Forum Community!
This is my first post but it won`t be the last one, nice to be here now!
I would need some help building a Wall Tag Family, i have created 3 different versions but they dont act like i want them to.
I really would appreciate any help and suggestions you can give me.
Version 1:
I can place this family only on one side of the wall. I can rotate with the spacebar by 90.
There is also an offset from the walls i dont want.
Version 2:
This is the mirrored version so i can tag the other side of the walls:
Version 3:
This is a Family with an arrowhead. It can tag both sides and even angled walls, but the arrow is pointing to the middle of the wall and i have to adjust the text positon for every tag.
Want i want is one family that i can place on the face of the wall and i want to decide the side of the wall.
Is there any way to achiev this with one family?
Happy abou any advice!
Than you in advance!
Kind regards

Hey there and welcome to the forum !
First of all your images don't work, better to use the forums own tool for that but not sure if you can if you don't have any posts here yet.
OK did a small test because I had no real idea about how this works in tags, so learned something myself here
It looks like this happens. Revit gets the total height of the tag, divides that by 2 and put the tag's origin (so the crossing of the 2 ref lines) at that distance from the center of the wall.
This is for a scale of 1:100. For other scales that distance changes according to the scale. So this is where your offset comes from.
As far as I know a wall tag tags the wall and not one of the sides. In your case I assume you tag the wall for wall finishes? If so, yeah that is not something Revit does very well. It was actually talked about in a live session this week at TheRevitKid's YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G7KacK5jMjM). Not really any solution I think but some suggestions.
When you place a tag with a Leader (and arrow) you can get rid of the gap by changing the Attached End option to Free End. You can then place the point of the arrow on the edge of the wall, but you will have to eyeball it as it won't snap.
Hope that helps you a bit
Hello Robin!

Looks like the gifs work now too in your first post.
And my answer stays the same![]()
Hey Robin, thanks for your reply!
These tags are for showing wall number and view direction for formworkplans.
I want to create a family that works without manipulating the tags after placing. Yes, Version 3 gives a good result if you maipulate each tag after placing.
To make version 1 work for all wall angles i have to set the parameter "rotate with component". Then i can only tag one side of the wall, please see attached gif. Is there any way to mirror the tags so i can tag the other side? Spacebar does nothing
Scale is no problem because its alway 1:100, but wall thickness is a big problem!
Revit familys have so many functions and can be so complex, can it really be true that there is no way to approve this family?
Have a nice day, kind regards![]()
You can add a few parameters (wall thickness, being one of them) to the tag and some calculations and you can make tag types for each wall thickness if you like and you will be able to place the tag on the side of each wall. Parameters in a Tag don't do Instance Parameters unfortunately.
Attached an example I put together
Hello Robin,
thanks for your help!
I have never used such a calculation before, thats nice.
It works great, i will make some additional types like that!
Sometime Revit can be a bit stubborn, but usually you can get her to do what you want anyway![]()
