I am wondering if anyone knows how to model an Open Web Rafter like the one in the attached portal frame drawing?
I am not great at modelling families so I am unsure where to begin.
We make them out of Square Hollow Section (SHS) steel like 75x75x3.0 or 100x100x4.0 and they vary in overall depth and length but I don't know how to make them into a family that I can use the family over and over again.
Make some truss families to suit. The ootb ones dont cover much.
Yes you need to do this in the truss family editor.
You will be able to draw a stick frame model of this, and set the chord sizes and set your constraints.
They dont look too complicated but I remember the first time I tangled with the truss families I struggled for a while with it, you really need to plan on paper how you are going to attack building the family and how it should constrain depending on your design.
Only way to get to it is just to get your hands dirty in a truss family
