    Instance Parameter Scheduling Issue

    I would like to schedule a set of beams. These beams have certain conditions attached to them. I currently have two parameters set up (both text). Both Instance. However I think one needs to be a type parameter but I cannot get that to work. When I change the parameter in one, it then blanks the other in the schedule as I have different text.

    Example;
    Beam Condition A = Beam is Condition A

    Beam Condition B = Beam is Condition B

    Beam Condition C = Beam is Condition C

    If the beam then changes to a B say from a C, I change the parameter to a B and I would like the description parameter to change accordingly rather than stay as C.

    Is there a way I can do this without it being as labour intense? i.e more intelligent?

    Curious. Pics might help.

    But I'm going to guess you (first) need to expand your schedule sort - sort columns by X, then by Y...

    As for the text values, being type or instance, and how you go about keeping them married/tied - well that's kind of the inverse of the above, because you could "collapse" your schedules to enable you to push populate to many instances at once to suit whatever your setup requires.

    Again, bit of guesswork here on my part, it's not entirely clear what you're doing.

    Thanks for the reply, a little more description;

    I am probably doing this incorrectly. I am using the schedule on my sheets as a key. My schedule is set so that not all instances are shown as I have 4 instances of the situation I am dealing with. If that makes sense.

    So when a situation on a beam changes, because I don't have them all shown the description blanks out as there's multiple instances.

    Can you upload a screen shot of your Schedule Properties? Specifically, the Sorting & Grouping tab.
    From what you just uploaded, it looks like you're Grouping by Custom Ref (the [A], [B], [C]. [D] parameter.
    Since the two beams on the left are both [A], they are grouping into one line.
    Can you Group by your Custom Description instead?

    sort by <Custom Ref> then by <Mark>, with instances shown will give you
    A,1
    A,2
    B,3
    D,4

    (after moving mark column to leftmost) sort by <Mark> then by <Custom Ref>, with instances shown will give you
    1,A
    2,A
    3,B
    4,D

    You will never see C in your second scenario. Why you want a beam condition that does not exist in a key?

    ...but if you must (for more general purposes, because maybe a C exists in an area of the model elsewhere on another sheet: Have you considered demolished placed instances using the types/library-phase/DO trick?
